Lower Back Pain Left Side Causes

You can commonly see some adults placing their hands on their back complaining of lower back pain left side. Usually, when people are used to certain actions, similar to using one's right or left hand for writing, much strain is placed on certain regions of the body. Major contributors to lower back pain left side or any back pain in particular would be improper posture and overworked muscles. Other factors like trauma coming from accidents, arthritis and osteoporosis are also considered.

Lower Back Pain Left Side Care

Like any back pain or pain normally caused by muscle and joint spasms, the most immediate remedy is rest. Relaxing to alleviate lower back pain left side would be best done by placing a cold or hot compress on the area for 20 to 30 minutes. There are also topical medications that can be bought at the local pharmacy to reduce muscle and joint pain. Ensure though that you are aware of any allergies you may have on certain topical liniments.

Despite the pain and discomfort, one of the best ways to lift off the muscle strain is to walk and do some basic exercises and positions. Lying down on the floor and placing a pillow under your knees can take off the pressure on your lower back. Flex your right and left feet at the heels while in this position alternately. This will help loosen the strain and pain you are experiencing as well. Quick massages using essential oils like Eucalyptus are proven by some to be effective as well.

Avoiding Lower Back Pain Left Side

Daily exercise is the key to avoid lower back pain left side or any other strains on your muscles. But also do remember that the muscles are not the only areas you need to protect and properly maintain. Joints and bones may cause even more serious pain when injured or affected. Apart from proper exercise, eating the right food and taking proper supplements with calcium will help reduce the risks of lower back pain left side.

When doing daily routines such as lifting, avoid regular lower back pain left side by properly distributing the weight on your knees, legs and arms. Do this by bending your knees to pick up the object instead of bending your back directly to pick up the object.

Taking note of your posture when sitting down for long period of time can also help in avoiding lower back pain left side. Lying down on your left side all the time may also cause strain on your back muscles particularly on the left side as it is the area acquiring most of the pressure and weight. Blood circulation on this area, when deprived due to constant strain, may also cause pain or strain later on.

Lower back pain left side may also be cause by disks on the spine. If the pain persists for more than a few weeks and keeps coming back despite the medications, it would be best to consult a specializing physician as further tests might need to be conducted.
